Who are ya?! Mateo Musacchio

musacchioThe likes of Manchester City and Chelsea have been linked with Villarreal starlet Mateo Musacchio, who has been making a big name for himself in Spain.

The 23-year-old is not so young any more, but it is still an unknown name to most in England, although in the footballing world he has been on the Villarreal scene for some time.

But don’t expect him to be coming over to the Premier League any time soon, or at least until his contract runs out, as it is apparent that his buyout clause is around the £50million mark, according to Sky Sports.

Of course at his age he hasn’t done anything overly spectacular to earn that price, but Villarreal know his potential and expect big things from the Argentine.

With Manchester City in need of another good centre back, he would be an ideal signing for the Sky Blues.

Who are ya?!

Born on the 26th August 1990, he grew up in Argentina where he was born and his first club as a professional footballer was River Plate back in 2006, and he managed 10 games in his three years there.

He then moved onto to Villarreal’s B team where he made his name, playing 22 times and scoring three goals in just one season.

After that, Villarreal liked what they saw and decided to call him up to the senior squad, where he has never looked back.

Since 2010 he has been in the first team squad and he has played 123 times, scoring three times; for someone so young he has seen a lot of game time, which indicates how highly the Spanish side rate him.

His form for Villarreal has even earned him a call up from his national side Argentina, for who he has played for the under-17, under-20 and the senior side.

He was part of the side that got relegated in 2012, which saw a mass exit of their stars, but Musacchio stayed and in fact helped them back up to La Liga the following year, which is where they rightly belong.

Future

And now, Musacchio has a contract spanning until 2018 and club chairman Fernando Roig has said that if someone wants to pay the correct amount of money, it is fine with him as long as it is paid up front.

But wherever he goes or if he stays, any side that has this young talent will only benefit from his game and potential.

So be sure to keep an eye on this name, as he is destined for stardom.
