Wenger praises new man
Arsene Wenger believes Mesut Ozil has a lot more to offer Arsenal after his impressive debut in the 3-1 win at Sunderland.
The German provided the assist for Arsenal’s opener in the 11th minute along with creating numerous chances for Theo Walcott in what could end up being a deadly partnership.
Praise from the manager
Wenger thinks that his new player is ideally suited to the Premier League and fits well into his side’s style of play.
The Frenchman said, as reported by Arsenal.com: ”He looked very comfortable.
“He is a great player and there is a lot more to come from him.
“He told me after the game he enjoyed it but he had a good idea of what to expect.
“We have a game that’s based a lot on movement and he gives everyone time to be available on the ball.
“It’s a kind of technical security and a creative side to his game that is very interesting.
“His final pass and his retention of the ball gives everybody time to move.”
Wenger decided to start Ozil despite him missing training on Friday through illness, and the Frenchman expects his record signing to bring a big boost to the club.
“He was like a guy who was invited to play for us because he was sick,” the manager continued. “But for a guy who was invited he did well.
“There was a demand from everybody to have a player for reasons that we didn’t challenge for the title because we lost big players without being capable of brining the same stature of players in.
“So that was a huge lift for everybody who loves our club.”
Ozil looks set to become one of the most feared playmakers in the league, and his performance on Saturday more than lived up to his club-record price tag.
With the likes of Ozil, Walcott, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud on song, the current table-toppers Arsenal could be set for a terrific season.
