Wenger chasing £10m man

Arsene Wenger has identified Celtic man Victor Wanyama as his chief transfer target, reports the Daily Star.

The paper claims that the Frenchman will turn down the opportunity to resign former midfielder Alex Song, in favour of landing Wanyama.

Reunion

Cameroon midfielder Song was sold to Barcelona last summer for £15million after Wenger was reportedly dissatisfied with the player’s attitude.

Song has struggled for game time in Spain, and may be open to a return to England, and with Arsenal struggling without a recognised defensive midfielder, a reunion has been touted.

However, Wenger has a history of being reluctant to sign former players, with Sol Campbell and Thierry Henry the only players to have had more than one spell at the club under Wenger’s reign.

Expected transfer

21 year old Wanyama has impressed for Celtic in the past two seasons, and has established himself as one of the most accomplished players in Scotland.

The Kenyan international is widely expected to secure a big move soon, and manager Neil Lennon has admitted in the past that it would be extremely difficult for the club to fend off interest.

It is thought that a bid in the region of £10 million could force Celtic’s hand, a fee that is well within Arsenal’s budget.

The paper also claims that Arsenal are looking into signing Auxerre striker Yaya Sanogo.
