Walcott: Arsenal stronger than Spurs
Theo Walcott has today denied that Arsenal are no longer top dogs in north London.
Still number one
In an interview with sky sports the England striker/winger said “Not at all. I feel we’re very, very strong.
“Everyone makes out our squad is very weak and there are not many of us but I think we showed in the last few games that we bounced back from a bad result in the first match [a 3-1 defeat against Aston Villa] and proved a lot of people wrong.”
It certainly seems that way after a convincing victory against Fulham in-between dominant victories over Fenerbahce home and away.
However there are still questions over the spine of the gunner’s team, with many people feeling they need a new centre-half and holding midfielder.
But the return of midfielder Mathieu Flamini should help add some fight into the centre of midfield.
Still the pressure is certainly on Arsenal to prove they are still the top team following a summer in which Tottenham Hotspur’s spending has reached £90 million.
The additions of Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Nacer Chadli and of course Roberto Soldado have added to the idea that Spurs could be the dominant force in north London.
Walcott shared his views on Spurs spending “Every club is different and they invested their money very well. For us players we just want to do a job on Sunday, we don’t care if they have brought in £30m stars.
He went on to say “They have some very good players and a very good manager but we need to make sure we focus on ourselves.”
North London derby
Opinion is still divided on who the better team is but it seems Walcott and his Arsenal teammates aren’t lacking confidence ahead of this derby.
Walcott had this to say on the game “The way we’re playing at the moment we believe we can beat anyone. It’s a massive game and I always enjoy them. The fans make it very special.”
So this Sunday might not prove who the better side is but will certainly earn the winning fans the bragging rights this early in the season.
