Twitter reacts to England’s draw with Ukraine
The result could have been worse. The performance could have been a lot better.
An uninspiring performance from the Three Lions resulted in an uninspiring game in Kiev as both England and Ukraine shared the spoils without spoiling us with entertaining football.
It says a lot about the game that ITV commentator Andy Townsend found himself trending worldwide as the third most-talked about topic, albeit in unflattering terms for the former Republic of Ireland international.
Indeed the only real talking point of the game came in the second minute when an unconvincing Joe Hart dived at the feet of Roman Zozulya and appeared to take the man before the ball, although referee Pedro Proença chose instead to award a corner to the hosts.
Time and time again Roy Hodgson’s men gave away possession far too cheaply and no one in a red shirt took the game by the scruff of the neck.
Theo Walcott often ran down blind alleys, Jack Wilshere was largely anonymous, Rickie Lambert failed to make himself a nuisance and many questioned the lack of an appearance from Michael Carrick, particularly when five-yard passes seemed to be a bridge too far for many.
But in the grand scheme of things, a point keeps England top of Group H and a point ahead of both Ukraine and Montenegro with two games left to play and both games to be played at Wembley.
But what did the good people of Twitter have to say about England’s performance?
