Three clubs chasing Anzhi striker
Chelsea are currently the front runners for Eto’o’s signature with much depending on the future of want away United striker Wayne Rooney.
If Rooney does move to Stamford Bridge, which is looking less and less likely by the day, then it would be United who would become favourites to sign Eto’o.
If Eto’o was unable to agree deals with either of these clubs then it would seem he would be set to re-join his former team Inter Milan, the same club he left to join Anzhi.
In an interview with ESPN Eto’o’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli said “I’d say there is a 30% chance of Eto’o returning to Inter.” So there is still a glimmer of hope for Inter fans.
The Cameroonian striker has been with Anzhi since 2011 scoring an impressive 25 goals in 52 appearances for the Russian club.
He had a great scoring record in Italy as well, having scored 33 goals in 67 games. However this was nothing compared to his goals record for Barcelona where he scored 108 goals in 145 appearances for the Spanish giants.
He is now 32 and since his move to Russia has begun playing in a deeper attacking role looking to play clever passes through for teammates or run at the defence from deep.
However that isn’t to say that he can’t still play off the shoulder of the last defender as he showed several times in Europe last season.
Samuel Eto’o’s imminent departure is just the tip of the iceberg for the Russian club who have placed all first team players on the transfer list.
The Russian side has had to slash their budget for the coming season, with players such as Lassana Diarra and Willian all being sold as well to get them off the wage budget.
