Spurs aim to steal striker from under Arsenal’s noses

Barcelona’s David Villa has been a major talking point in the build up to the Summer Transfer Window and now it has emerged that Tottenham Hotspur may be set to steal the Spanish superstar – much to the disappointment of their London rivals Arsenal, as reported by The Express.

Villa has had an up and down season with the Nou Camp outfit as he has never been guaranteed a place in the starting line up but has enjoyed a boost of appearances in recent weeks.

Rumours

It is plausible that giving the 31-year-old a fair share of chances as the season draws to a close was a strategy from manager Tito Vilanova to keep the striker satisfied as Barca have already wrapped up the La Liga title as they sit ten points clear of Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid.

The rumours have always been sustained that Spain’s all-time top goalscorer was on his way to the English Premier League, with Arsenal leading the way throughout most of the speculation after a deal was nearly reached in January.

Agreed

But now reports in Spain from radio station Cadena Ser and newspaper Mundo Deportivo suggest that Villa is on his way to White Hart Lane and that a £15million fee has already been agreed between the two parties.

One major factor as to where the attacker will be playing his football next season should he come to England is whether Arsene Wenger’s or Andre Villas-Boas’ men will secure Champions League football for next campaign – a matter which will be decided on the final day of the season this Sunday.

It has been reported that the Gunners have now turned to Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain as a back-up option and that they may be on the verge of signing the goal-scorer for £18million.

Well, if that’s what you call “stealing something from under one’s nose,” we live in very peaceful times.

I’m pretty sure Arsenal weren’t “interested” in Villa last Summer, Winter, and aren’t interested in him now. He’s a slowly aging striker with a serious injury in recent past and level performance to prove it. He’s no fit with the Arsenal squad, period.
As for Tottenham, I’m not convinced they’re really in for him, either, though admittedly, he may turn out to be more reliable than Adebayor.

Also, is it still stealing when you’re taking someon’s left-overs?

Wenger said he was but they weren’t budging I heard it myself straight from the proverbials mouth.

@Genezyp Kapen – Another ‘slowly ageing’ and injury prone striker made a £25 million pound move and won a title recently. David Villa isn’t fit for the arsenal squad hey like Nasri, Fabregas and RVP weren’t or were they? Not sure these days what standard of player is fit for that team. Maybe it’s the Gervinho’s and Poldoski’s that you need.
I actually agree with the fact that it isn’t quite ‘stealing’ and neither club may be interested, but David Villa is still a very good marksman and arsenal need to be realistic you can’t sign the Canvani’s and Falco’s, Rooney would be a struggle for you!

Also not sure how he is your ‘leftovers’ if you were never interested in him ‘last summer, winter, and aren’t interested in him now’?
