Saints target Italy international
Sky Sports said that reports in Italy suggest Roma are trying to convince Osvaldo to move to England, and that the Saints are now leading the race to sign him.
The 27 year old has fallen out with the management at the Italian side after their defeat in the Coppa Italia final, and his future with the club seems over, but where his future lies remains a mystery.
It truly seems like a race now to sign the Argentine born Italian, which Southampton seem to be winning, but they’re not the only side who are in for Osvaldo.
Some of Roma’s directors have met with Spurs’ technical director Franco Baldini to discuss the potential signing of Osvaldo, as well as Erik Lamela and Miralem Pjanic.
But it’s not only Premiership clubs who are interested in taking him off Roma’s hands.
Atletico Madrid, Benfica and VfL Wolfsburg are other clubs around Europe that are linked with the forward, so Southampton will have to work hard and quick to sign their man.
He may have angered the Roma bosses enough for them to want to sell him, but the 27 year old has a lot of quality he could add to any side who buys him.
In the last four years he has managed goals and impressive performances, firstly in his two years with La Liga side Espanyol, and then with Roma in the last two seasons.
He managed 17 goals in 31 appearances for them in the last campaign, and his goal scoring ability would be useful at Southampton, Spurs and Fulham.
He’s also scored 3 goals for Italy, and Osvaldo has clearly ample amounts of quality he could add to the Premier League.
