Premier League teams put on alert as Napoli move in on striker
Napoli have increased their interest in Borussia Dortmund’s star striker Robert Lewandowski who is reportedly subject to interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.
The Express are reporting that a whole host of teams across Europe are now on red alert after the increased interest from Napoli was revealed.
The 25 year old was one of the inspirational figures behind Dortmund’s Champions League adventure last season which landed them in the final.
In the Champions League alone he scored 10 goals in 13 appearances plus two assists along the way.
He maintained his fine form in the Bundesliga throughout the season as he scored 24 goals in 31 appearances as well as grabbing seven assists along with it.
This made him one of the most sought after strikers in Europe.
With Napoli selling Edinson Cavani to PSG, they are in need of replacing him with another big name and they have identified Robert Lewandowski as a potential replacement despite them already signing Gonzalo Higuain this summer.
However, their pursuit of him won’t be easy as they will have fend off interest from Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Everyone expected the Polish international to join Bayern when his contract expires in the summer of 2014 but recent talk from his agent would reveal that the expected deal is actually far from that.
With news reaching Chelsea and United ears, interest from them has been reignited as they feel a deal could well be struck.
Speaking to Italian radio station CRC Lewandowski’s agent. Raffaelle Auriemma, said: “Napoli on Lewandowski? I can not tell you how long I spoke with Aurelio De Laurentiis. It must remain between us.
“But I can tell you that we have recently had contact.
“What do I think of Napoli? They are a tough team to handle.
“Nobody thinks they can win the Champions League, but they have a very good coach in Rafael Benitez, good management and very competitive players.”
