Newcastle punish star performer
The matches the Frenchman has missed are Premier League fixtures against West Ham United and Manchester City, which they drew and lost and a trip to Morecambe in the Capital One Cup. Cabaye missed these games due to the fact that the Magpies received a bid, which they rejected, for his services from Arsenal.
The 27-year old has now apologised to the Toon Army for his recent behaviour and received a standing ovation from them in return following the 2-1 win away to Aston Villa.
In an interview with the Chronicle Pardew said:”He has been disciplined for his action. He has accepted it and we move on.
“It was accepted in good faith and his performance last week spoke a thousand words.
“It is about performances. Newcastle fans want to see him pull on the shirt and perform.”
Pardew has admitted that Papiss Cisse’s current poor form and inability to find goal of late is giving him reason to worry.
“That is a concern,” said the Englishman. “We have worked hard to find avenues for him to find that goal.
“Hopefully we can create more opportunities and we have competition for places.”
The worry for Newcastle fans about Cabaye is that he gets his head back into the right place and continues to put in performances that warranted interest from the likes of Arsenal in the first place.
It will be interesting to see if Cabaye remains content with life in the north-east or if he seeks to move somewhere new in the January window.
