Mourinho unhappy over Guardiola comparison
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has already started the mind games with Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola ahead of the UEFA Super Cup this evening.
The winners of last season’s Champions League and Europa League face each other at The Eden Arena in Prague, both with different managers to the ones that led them to success in May.
And the new bosses couldn’t have been better choices in terms of rivalry, with Mourinho and Guardiola in charge of Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona two years ago.
But Mourinho has been quick to stop comparisons between two and keep the talk to the coaches’ current teams not their former ones, The Mirror say.
Pointing angrily to the Chelsea crest on his sweatshirt, Mourinho said: “If you want questions about Chelsea I’m here until 4 o’clock.
“If you want questions about Real Madrid and Barcelona, I’m not here.
“It’s not about me and Pep. It’s about Chelsea and Bayern Munich. It’s about a Super Cup, where the European champions are playing the Europa League champions.
“Pep is not European champion and I’m not the Europa League champion. We’re just coaching these teams. It’s not about us. It’s about Chelsea and Bayern.”
Also in the very fiery press conference with the 50-year-old, one brave journalist pointed out that Mourinho had only won three games out of 15 against Guardiola in the past, a statement ‘The Happy One’ wrongly corrected.
When told the figure he snapped: “Your statistics are wrong as a start. Very wrong. Very wrong. Because… but I don’t want to discuss that because it’s not important. I’ll just say it’s wrong.
“Go there and see what happened with Inter in the Champions League semi-final. The league records in Spain. The Copa Del Rey in Spain. The Super Cup in Spain.
“You are very, very wrong. You are wrong. But it’s not important.
“That’s not me against him, it’s club against club. That’s not important.
“I just know that I won the Champions League semi-final with Inter. I won the Spanish Cup final in Valencia. I won the Super Cup in Spain. I was champion in Spain. I won the match of the title in Barcelona with Real Madrid.
“Maybe you are right and I am wrong, but I don’t care. It’s not important for me.”
The teams last met in Champions League final in 2012, when Chelsea won their first ever crown, winning on penalties after the game had finished 1-1 after 120 minutes.
The victory meant they took part in last season’s Super Cup as well but were humiliated as they lost 4-1 to Atletico Madrid, with Radamel Falcao scoring a hat-trick.
Mourinho will be hoping for a better outcome 12 months on but will be without former Anzhi Makhachkala pair Willian and Samuel Eto’o who both signed with the West London club too late to be included this evening.
