Midfielder wins Arsenal award
Arsenal fans voted Aaron Ramsey ‘Player of the Month’ in an August poll on the official Gunners website.
According to Arsenal.com, fans voted in record numbers, and more than three quarters of them chose the Welshman.
The midfielder ended last season in fine form, and has clearly picked up where he left off at the start of this campaign.
He showed his goalscoring prowess in the Champions League, smashing three past Fenerbahce over two legs in the qualifier, and has demonstrated his authoritative attacking ability in the heart of the Reds’ midfield.
The 22-year-old’s defensive discipline was vital during Mikel Arteta’s absence, but as those goals suggest, Ramsey has the ability to push forward when he wants to.
Olivier Giroud also had a fantastic month, but the Frenchman was a distant second in the poll with a mere 13.9 per cent of the overall vote.
It has been three years since Ramsey was on the receiving end of a tackle from Stoke City’s Ryan Shawcross, a challenge that broke his leg and ruled him out for nine months.
Loan spells at Cardiff City and Nottingham Forest allowed him to get back to his best and break into the Premier League once again.
With the arrival of Arsene Wenger’s latest signing Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid, Wales head coach Chris Coleman believes the former Welsh skipper will have nothing to worry about.
“Ozil is a great player,” said Coleman, as reported by Sky Sports. “But if Aaron keeps playing like he is, then I don’t think he will lose his place.”
