Man City suffer injury blow
Manchester City’s new centre-back Martin Demichelis is the latest City defender to be sidelined after suffering a knee injury in training.
According to Sky Sports, the defender will be injured for up to six weeks, but will not require surgery, something that new boss Manuel Pellegrini can take a crumb of comfort from.
Demichelis on the move
Demichelis’ move to the blue half of Manchester was an interesting one, given he had signed for Atletico Madrid only two months before joining City.
The 32-year-old never actually played for Los Colchoneros before he moved from Spain to England.
A determining factor in his abrupt move will be the Manchester club’s prospects in the forthcoming campaign.
It’s highly likely City will be in the running for all three domestic trophies this season, especially after successfully concluding their summer transfer business in good time.
Indeed, having signed exciting attacking players such as Jesus Navas and Stevan Jovetic to name but two, Demichelis may view the Manchester club as a vehicle to more success, in his already decorated career.
The Argentina international joined the Blues last weekend from Atletico as manager Pellegrini looked to strengthen his side’s defensive options, after losing club captain Vincent Kompany to injury earlier in the season.
Joleon Lescott and Matija Nastasic are once again the only fully fit, senior centre-halves at disposal of City, with versatile defender Micah Richards still not fully fit.
Therefore Pellegrini may be forced to use Spanish defensive midfielder Javi Garcia as a makeshift defender in upcoming fixtures, given his club’s busy schedule, which sees them participate in no less than four competitions once again this season.
