Major clubs battle for starlet’s signature
Major Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City are itching to snap up Schalke starlet Julian Draxler but face a tough battle in doing so, according to the Daily Express.
It is alleged that the midfielder is on the move in the summer, and reports from Germany suggest the 19-year-old is wanted by the aforementioned giants, with United and Chelsea the most interested.
As if that pool of competing clubs wasn’t enough, Draxler’s dazzling form in the Bundesliga has also merited him interest from Italy as AC Milan and Inter Milan are said to be in with a shout of securing that all-important signature, the newspaper claims.
Perhaps in a bid to make those interest inject more money into the deal, Schlake boss Horst Heldt acknowledged the starlet is a wanted commodity but said bids are off the table.
“There has always been reported interest from international clubs,” he said, as reported by the newspaper.
“And now we have had enquiries for Julian. But this is not a topic for us. A sale is not up for discussion.”
While Draxler’s contract does not finish at the Veltins Arena until 2016, a potential move abroad to a larger club seemed to tempt the ambitious German international.
“It’s great to get enquiries,” he admitted, according to the newspaper. “But I feel good at Schalke and want to take my career forward.”
It is undoubted that homegrown Draxler feels attached to Schalke having been at the club since the age of eight – progressing through the academy to now feature 25 times for the side this season.
