Liverpool want to kick out cup errors
Brendan Rodgers is determined to avoid a cup upset as Liverpool take on Notts County at Anfield tonight.
Rodgers has committed that he will play strong sides even against lower league opposition as the Anfield club seek cup glory.
Rodgers does not want a repeat of last year’s 3-1 defeat at home to Swansea when he fielded an unexperienced 11.
Rodgers spoke to the Liverpool Echo about tonight’s tie;
“We will treat Notts County with the same respect as Manchester United. We want to do well in the cup competitions this year. For us we will always respect whatever opponent we play no matter what division they are in.
“Our focus is on ourselves to get the job done and get in the next round.”
He also reinforced his intention to start a strong team.
“Managers tend to utilise squad in these games but it will be an opportunity for some players to get a game who maybe have not featured. The core of our team will be there, if there is an opportunity to recover one or two players who have niggles we look at that but we will have a strong side out.”
Captain Steven Gerrard and in-form striker Daniel Sturridge are likely to be rested but players such as Aspas and Sterling are set to start.
Perhaps the Capitol One Cup is a chance to secure European football for next season.
I’m sure it will be a tough game tonight but with our confidence it is our job to get in the next round and that is what we aim to do.”
