Liverpool to fight to keep defender

Liverpool are set to face a fight to keep a hold of Daniel Agger, after Barcelona put him at the top of their wish list, according to reports.
The Mirror reports that the Catalan side are planning a rejuvenation of their defensive line up.
As Barca’s defence continues to age, mainly Carles Puyol, who is now 34 years old, the club are now looking to add some younger players to the line-up.
Revived bid
The newspaper claims the Spanish side failed with a bid for the Danish international last summer after he signed a new four-year deal with the Reds.
Even though the bid was only in the preliminary stages, believed to have been an enquiry, Brendan Rodgers will be keen to hold on to his defenders as Kop legend Jamie Carragher is set to retire at the end of the season.
In addition to Carragher’s retirement, it has been reported previously that Martin Skrtel is a target for Zenit St. Petersburg and Sebastian Coates has been linked with a move to South America after failing to make his mark at Anfield, the newspaper claims.
This means that Rodgers may need to sign three defenders already to replace the outgoing players.
Funds
It was reported earlier this week that West Ham United would not be signing Andy Carroll on a permanent deal at the end of the season, according to the newspaper, but the Liverpool manager still plans on selling the former Newcastle United striker to provide the funds for the transfers he needs to make.
The newspaper suggests that the Reds are rumoured to be looking at Swansea City’s Ashley Williams, Feyenoord’s Stefan De Vrij and Valencia’s Aly Cissokho.
