Hefty price tag on Swans man

Swansea City and their manager, Michael Laudrup have put a £10 million release clause in the Dane’s new contract, according to The Sun.

This clause is meant to discourage any clubs coming in for their manager this summer. The list is believed to include the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Season

Swansea have had one of their best seasons so far in their 100 year history. They are currently sitting in 9th, four points behind West Brom but four points above Fulham in the Premier League.

But, of course their biggest achievement of the season has to be winning the Capital One Cup. They overcame, European champions, Chelsea over two legs in the semi-final before beating league two Bradford City in the final at Wembley 5-0, which set the record for the biggest win in a final.

The Swans have scored 40 goals this season in the league, including nine against Queens Park Rangers. They’ve drawn with Chelsea at home and beaten Arsenal away.

Attacking stars like Miguel Michu and Jonathan de Guzman have really impressed under Laudrup.

Clause

If the £10 million price tag on their manager is met by any one this summer, it is said that £3 million of that will go straight to Laudrup. And he will remain on his salary of £700,000.

His new contract lasts until 2015.

Swansea have lost all of their last three managers to bigger clubs, Brendan Rogers, Roberto Martinez and Paulo Sousa, so they will be hoping that this new contract and buy-out clause will discourage any club from buying him so they can keep their star Dane for next season.
