Former Arsenal man to make shock return?

Former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song could be set to make a shock return to North London, according to The Express.

Song has struggled to make an impact in Spain since joining the club in a £15million deal in August last year, and has been on the fringes of Tito Villanova’s squad this season.

Even when Villanova went to New York for medical reasons, with assistant coach Jordi Roura taking over, the Cameroon international wasn’t used much, and he has only made three appearances since the turn of the year.

Reports in Spain suggest that Song is ready to call time on his stint at the Nou Camp, according to the newspaper, and Arsene Wenger is said to be interested in a summer transfer for the 25-year-old.

Competition

However, the Gunners are not the only club interested in Song, and they would have to fight off interest from French club Paris Saint-Germain, the newspaper claims, who would surely be able to give him a juicier wage package.

However, Song is said to want to return to the club he spent seven years at since joining in 2005, according to the newspaper.

Arsenal have not really replaced the quality of Song, with Mikel Arteta being the one playing in his position this season.

Reports also suggest that the reason Song left last year was because Wenger felt he lacked commitment and drive in training, and this may be something that would have to be sorted out before a deal is agreed.
