Everton tracking £10m striker

Everton are looking to sign Porto forward Christian Atsu, according to talkSPORT.

The 21 year old, who was a scorer for Ghana at the African Cup of Nations, has seen contract negotiations with the Portuguese club stall, and could be available for around £10million.

Versatile

A versatile player is capable of performing on the wings and through the middle. His dribbling ability and pace make him a difficult player for defenders to deal with in one-on-one situations.

He has appeared in all but one of Porto’s Champions League matches this season, coming on as a sub in the team’s recent first leg win over Malaga in the first knockout round of the competition.

The Porto man was a target for both Tottenham Hotspurs and Liverpool last season, but elected to remain in Portugal.

Costly

Despite the player’s potential, it may seem a risk to splash such a considerable amount of money for a player yet to prove himself capable of consistently performing at the top level.

Atsu only recently scored his first goal in 19 appearances this season, and is in only the second full season of his professional playing career.

A striker would seem a priority for the Toffees, with midfielder Marouane Fellanini, whose own future is far from certain, is the top scorer for the club with 12 goals this season, and strikers such as Nikica Jelavic struggling for form.
