Chelsea to bid for Porto starlet

Chelsea are set to bid for Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala after hearing that John Terry is a target of Monaco.

The free-spending Ligue 1 club are looking to prise the Blues stalwart from Stamford Bridge after a hot and cold season for the former England captain.

New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho used to manage Porto and is expected to raid his former club for £20million-rated central defender Mangala, say the Mirror.

Chelsea are believed to have already held talks with the Portuguese giants and France Under-21 international Mangala is aware of their interest.

Terry has only a year left on his current contract and Mourinho wants to keep him at the club. However, the 32-year-old has stalled talks for a new deal as he is unsure of his place in the Special One’s plans for next season.

After handing a new contract to another Chelsea legend, midfielder Frank Lampard, Terry is the next issue.

Terry may be tempted b a tax-free salary at Monaco whilst Galatasaray are also believed to have made an offer.

22-year-old Mangala has made 30 appearances for Porto sine arriving from Standard Liege in 2011.

Born in France but raised in Belgium, he is regarded as one of the next big continental stars.
