Premier League side want Chelsea defender

West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke has travelled to Holland to watch Tomas Kalas – currently on loan from Chelsea.

The Daily Mail reports that the Albion boss was in the crowd, along with the club’s European scout Tony Spearing, to watch the defender take on Twente for Vitesse last weekend.

Reinforcements needed

Clarke has been on the hunt for a right-back for some time now, as Steven Reid has struggled with injuries all season and Billy Jones is thought to be an expendable player for the Baggies.

West Brom would have strenghtened their squad during the January transfer window, but they decided to bide their time and make sure they got the right man for the job.

And Clarke has identified Kalas, 19, as the perfect man to fill the role. It is likely that Chelsea will be looking to loan him out for the 2013/2014 season as well, with a Premier League side being the perfect destination.

Despite his young age, the defender has already been capped by the Czech Republic following his successful spell in Holland.

West Brom have a good working relationship with Chelsea, following the success of Romelu Lukaku’s loan spell at the Hawthorns.

Kalas recently signed a new deal with Chelsea that means he will be tied to the club until 2017.
