Chelsea star wants Madrid man to join
It is alleged Lampard told friends that he would relish a role alongside the Special One as it would secure his future at Stamford Bridge – both as a player and in a coaching position.
As the 34-year-old’s playing days will be coming to an end, Lampard is hoping to earn his trade as a coach with the club he has been on the books of since 2001.
It is known that Mourinho and Lampard are close – the two have kept in touch since their three trophy-filled years with the Blues and have nearly worked together again when Mourinho tried to take his prodigy with him to Inter Milan in 2008.
As Mourinho’s managerial time at Real Madrid looks to be ending once the La Liga season finishes, that has opened the door for the Portuguese boss to accept offers from a dozen clubs who would love to sign the Special One.
And a move back to Chelsea under chairman Roman Abramovich is the front-runner as interim boss Rafa Benitez will make way at the end of the Premier League term.
Despite sitting third in the table, Blues supporters feel they have endured a torrid season which wasn’t aided when fan-favourite Roberto Di Matteo was sacked.
But they will be ready to forgive their impatient owner should the return of the one of the world’s highest rated managers emerge.
