Chelsea see North London side as title contenders
Chelsea’s decision came soon after the gunner’s capture of German playmaker Mesut Ozil, for a club record fee of £42 million
It seemed as though the Senegalese frontman was set to complete a move to the Emirates with Chelsea seeing him as surplus to requirements but Jose decided at the last minute to pull the plug.
Chelsea have bolstered their striking options this summer with the addition of Samuel Eto’o adding to Fernando Torres and Andre Schurrle.
The Stamford Bridge side also had Romelu Lukaku and Victor Moses to call on however decided to loan them out to Everton and Liverpool respectively. This may have impacted Jose’s final decision to keep him.
Without the capture of Mesut Ozil, Arsenal’s transfer activity could be described as underwhelming.
The additions of Emilliano Viviani on loan and Mathieu Flamini on a free are hardly likely to excite gunner’s fans.
However whilst the signings are hardly likely to set pulses raising they may make Arsenal a harder team to beat.
With Viviani providing a safe pair of hands in goal and Flamini a hard edge to the midfield Arsenal may just be able to grind out a few results that they need to realise their top four ambition.
