Chelsea and Liverpool to miss out on La Liga star
Chelsea and Liverpool target Arda Turan has attempted to end all speculation about his future, as he says he plans to stay at Atletico Madrid.
The attacking midfielder, who can also play on the wing, has previously expressed his desire to play Premier League football at some point during has career, and has been linked with a move this summer.
But now, the Turkey international seems set to stay at least one more season in Spain with La Liga outfit Atletico.
“I am going to stay with Atletico,” Turan told reporters, according to Sky Sports.
He had also been linked with a number of Europe’s top clubs, and was believe to want a move to a club playing Champions League football next season.
However, Atletico’s successful season – a third place La Liga finish – has seen them qualify again for the Champions League, persuading the 26-year-old to stick with his guns.
“I cried for five minutes after the final game of the season because it was like being in another dimension,” he continued.
“It was impossible to stop the tears. This team fought with spirit, blood and faith,” he continued.
Turan has 64 international caps, and has scored 12 goals for Turkey.
He became captain of an emerging Galatasaray side at just 22 years of age, and following over 150 appearances, was transferred to Madrid’s second biggest club in 2011.
Since then, he has amassed 65 appearances for Atletico, scoring on eight occasions.
