Championship sides interested in highly rated English youngster
Watford and Wigan Athletic are set to do battle for the signature of young Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah.
The Mirror is reporting the England Under -21 star is the subject of a transfer tussle between the two Championship clubs.
The Hornets are keen on bringing back the talented young midfielder for another season, after he performed so well for the beaten play-off finalists last term.
Gianfranco Zola’s side are allegedly not willing to match his new £35,000 wages however, which could open the door for another suitor.
And that could well be Wigan, as they now have cash from the sale of James McCarthy to Everton, and are reportedly willing to pay the salary in full.
Although London boy Chalobah may well prefer to stay in the capital and repeat the success he enjoyed at Vicarage Road last year.
Owen Coyle is said to be very keen to bring the precocious young midfield player up to the DW Stadium, and fill a whole in his squad.
The Latics have already beaten Watford and Middlesborough to the signing of Manchester United’s Nick Powell, and will be hoping that their new found spending power will help conclude the deal.
The limited opportunities that will be afforded to Chalobah this season in a Chelsea squad already packed full of international talent, means that it will be to the benefit of both the player and Jose Mourinho’s side for him to continue his development at a top of the table Championship club.
