Celtic star fancies Saints move?

VvDCeltic defender Virgil van Dijk is keen on a move to Southampton to link up with his fellow countryman Ronald Koeman, according to The Mirror.

Celtic want at least £10 million for the defender but, following the exodus of Southampton players this summer, that will not be a problem for the South Coast side.

If The Saints were to get this deal over the line it would be a bit of a coup for the club, with van Dijk highly regarded across Europe. Not so long ago he was being linked with the likes of Manchester United, and he is starting to get international recognition despite not playing in the World Cup.

With Dejan Lovren expected to leave the club for Liverpool any day now, it is vital that Koeman brings in a ready-made replacement and van Dijk ticks all the boxes. He is quick, strong, tall and at just 23 years of age, he has his best seasons ahead of him.

After two successful seasons in Scotland, it is time for van Dijk to make the move down south and compete against better quality opposition on a regular basis. He has proved he can do it in the Champions League and now is the time for him to show his worth week in, week out in England’s top flight.

With The Saints going under so many changes this summer as well, he has the chance to go in as a main player instead of having to wait and dislodge a senior squad player like he may have to at Swansea City, where he is also wanted. I think it is a great move for the player and Southampton if they are able to get this transfer done before the start of the season.
