Beaucratic problems meant United failed to land target
An amazing story has appeared out of transfer deadline day, Manchester United failed in their attempts to sign Ander Herrera due to imposter posing as United officials.
The bizarre story
Manchester United reportedly had a bid of £25 million turned down according to Sky Sports, however United were expected to trigger the release clause of €36 million in a second bid.
However, a group of “representatives” for the Manchester club spent an hour in La Liga head office trying to finalise a deal when no agreement had been reached.
According to the report no fee was ever agreed and he two clubs and not been in contact over an improved bid, therefore there should have been no representatives from the English club in Spain.
Amazingly, they managed to gain access to the head offices in Spain and nearly complete the paperwork which would have allowed Herrera to leave Athletic Bilbao.
So who were these people?
Were they United fans who were so desperate for some business from the club they took matters into their own hands?
Were they people from other clubs trying to distract United from making anymore deals?
Or were they simply a group of pranksters or were surprised how far they got before in the end backing out?
Will we ever know?
