Chelsea stars targeted by Spanish giants

Barcelona have turned their attention to strengthening their defence and have reportedly nominated Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic as their top target.

According to the Daily Star, Barcelona would also be interested in a double swoop for both Ivanovic and David Luiz.

While Barcelona may have the funds to acquire both of the Chelsea players, Jose Mourinho is very unlikely to allow such an ambitious move to take place.

However, with Mourinho being told to make his own transfer funds, it is possible that either of these players could be heading to Spain.

The newspaper reports that Barcelona had also been interested in Paris Saint-Germain’s Thiago Silva but were unable to meet the demanded price for the Brazilian.

Perfect fit

Both of the targeted players fit with Barcelona’s passing philosophy as both are more than comfortable with the ball at their feet.

Luiz has appeared in midfield and has shown his technical ability, netting seven goals this season, and also played alongside Ivanovic in their Europa League final victory over Benfica.

Ivanovic has scored more goals than Luiz, most importantly scoring the winner in the Europa League final, however Mourinho could price him higher than Luiz as the Brazilian made less appearances this season for the Blues.

Chelsea will be the team to watch next season. They have everything lined up for success. They have been building for a while and now is their moment. Mourinho has certainly noticed. Barca is no longer the force they were. Luiz and company would be foolish to move now.
