Barcelona line up future move for Chelsea midfielder
Barcelona would like to bring Juan Mata back to Spain if his role at Chelsea does not change, but face competition from a spiteful Jose Mourinho.
The Express is reporting that Barca have identified Mata as someone who suits their style of play, and see him as a potential long term replacement of Cesc Fabregas or Alexis Sanchez, whose careers at the Nou Camp are far from certain.
But reports coming out of Spain are suggesting that the Chelsea boss holds a grudge against Barca, and would go out his way to stop any move from materialising, including offering him to his old club Real Madrid before letting him leave for the Catalan giants.
Mata was linked with moves to Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal during the previous transfer window, however the Portuguese tactician insisted that he had no intention of letting him go, with the player himself insisting that he would like to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.
Most of the Chelsea faithful would find it incredulous that their club are even willing to think about letting go of the player who has been the West London clubs Player of the Year for the past two season’s running.
Mata has been quite simply brilliant at times since he moved to Stamford Bridge in 2011, and has scored 18 goals in 70 appearances for the club, as well as countless assists, with even fans of rival clubs praising the qualities of the Spain international.
Lack of leadership
The Spanish press meanwhile are reporting that Mourinho remains disappointed with the diminutive playmakers perceived lack of leadership, and may well be willing to soften his stance in the coming months and allow the player to leave.
With next summer’s World Cup in Brazil on the horizon, Mata himself may be willing to contemplate a move away from the Bridge, if he feels his participation in the tournament is under threat.
The 25 year old may have cause for concern as well, after he was left out of his country’s most recent squad.
