AVB confirms interest in this man
Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed the club’s interest in Steaua Bucharest’s Vlad Chiriches.
As SkySports reports, Steaua claimed days ago that they were close to agreeing a deal for their highly-rated young centre back and AVB has stated that he is a player they are hoping to sign.
“Vlad Chiriches, there is an interest in the player.”
SkySports reports him as saying before joking about Willian’s move to Chelsea: “Maybe somebody steals him as well!”
“Good luck to him … he made a choice, that he feels is important for the development of his career, good luck to him.”
Villas-Boas has highlighted his defence as somewhere that needs strengthened after Spurs sold Steven Caulker at the end of July and have yet to add to their defensive options.
They also have Younes Kaboul, although the 27-year-old only managed one appearance for the club last season due to a long-term knee injury and are looking to Chiriches to bolster their defensive options.
“We have looked to strengthen our backline with the departure of Setven Caulker, last year we had Younes [Kaboul] injured for the season but we had five, so we are looking for the position and we are going to go ahead with our re-strengthening.” The Portuguese boss confirmed, as reported by SkySports.
The 23-year-old Romanian has been compared to legendary Cristian Chivu in his homeland as he continues to win plaudits in the Romanian topflight.
The centre-back has also caught the attention of many major European clubs in recent seasons, most notably Milan based sides AC and Inter but a move to the Premier League now looks imminent.
