Arsenal’s big money offer failed to lure Madrid defender
The former Real Madrid defender has believed to have turned down the chance to join Arsene Wenger’s men in favour of staying with current club Athletico.
The north London club are understood to have enquired about the 28 year old’s services, and were prepared to offer him a wage which would quadruple the amount he was receiving in Madrid.
However the Spanish international rejected the offer because of the upcoming World Cup, and is desperate to feature for the national side in Brazil next year.
The former Osasuna defender has been rewarded with a new mega contract from Athletico Madrid for his loyalty towards the club, the contract will tie him up till 2017.
The Spanish full-back spoke openly of his delight with the new deal, telling the press he wants to see out his new contract at the club.
Juanfran said, as reported by the Daily Star: “I want to thank the club and the coach all the confidence they have in me.
“I am very proud to wear this shirt and this coat for many years”.
The Real Madrid graduate was part of Spain’s victorious Euro 2012 squad and is desperate to be a part of that squad next summer.
