Arsenal starlet’s loan deal could be extended

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has claimed he would like on-loan Arsenal youngster Ryo Miyaichi to remain at the DW stadium for a further year, report The Express.
The highly rated 20-year-old joined Wigan on loan in August 2012 but has failed to make an impact having been hampered by injuries throughout the campaign.
However, Martinez claims he has been impressed by Miyaichi and would relish the opportunity to keep the Japanese winger at Wigan for the upcoming season.
Injured
Miyaichi has been ruled out of the remainder of this season having picked up an ankle injury in Wigan’s FA Cup victory over Everton which has since been operated on.
Despite this, the Wigan boss has said he would be interested in keeping Miyaichi on should Arsenal allow it.
Martinez said: “We will have to speak with Arsenal and we need to assess and make sure they are happy with the progression of the player.
“Ryo is a footballer that we really admire and has an incredible future in front of him so if we could work with him for a longer period we would be very happy to do that.”
Miyaichi did not start a league game this season for Wigan and having sustained this ankle injury it is unlikely he will get the opportunity to do so.
Impressed
The young winger signed for Arsenal in 2010 after impressing Arsene Wenger during a trial with the club.
He has since enjoyed impressive loan spells at Feyenoord and Bolton Wanderers and Wenger is believed to have high hopes for the Japanese starlet.
It is expected that Miyaichi will once again be loaned out next season so Martinez is likely to get his wish should Wigan remain in the Premier League.
