Arsenal star dismisses rumours
Arsenal midfielder Santiago Cazorla has put fans fears to bed after he stated that no bid was made by Atletico Madrid over the summer.
Arsenal’s player of the season was the centre of everything positive at the club. He played with a smile on his face and more than repaid his £12-16 million price tag.
The Spaniard was definitely amongst the goals and assists last season as he grabbed 12 in both departments.
The player also featured in all 38 Premier League last season to show how incredibly consistent he was.
Following Mesut Ozil’s arrival, Cazorla’s limelight may well have been stolen by the German but the diminutive Spanish international won’t mind one bit.
Rumours over the summer suggested that Atletico Madrid were looking to take the former Malaga midfielder back to Spain and it was even suggested that the club had made a bid for the player.
However, the president of Atletico Madrid, Enrique Cerezo, was quick to play down the rumours at the time.
Cazorla is just confirming what the Madrid president stated during the summer in an interview with The Marca.
“No because there was never anything in that,” Cazorla told Marca.
“Like Cerezo said, there was no offer made and I was always calm about it.”
Arsenal’s already thin squad would not have been helped by Cazorla’s departure as the Gunners need as many fully fit players as possible at the moment.
An important trip to Sunderland at the weekend is next on the agenda for Arsenal, it is also expected that Mesut Ozil will finally make his debut for the club.
