Arsenal set to clear out underperforming stars

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger may be facing a backlash from Wojciech Szczesny as he appears set to sign a goalkeeper in the summer, reports claim.
In addition to this, the Frenchman is set to sell club captain, Thomas Vermaelen, as he bids to get rid of his underachievers, according to the Daily Mail.
Criticism
The Gunners boss has recently criticised his current number one’s mental state, which he said was behind the decision to drop the Pole for the Champions League tie against Bayern Munich.
However, in a twist, the newspaper reveals that Wenger made it clear to the ‘keeper that he has been unimpressed with his performances and informed him of this.
The Arsenal boss has reportedly drawn up a shortlist of targets for the number one jersey, with Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic, Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet and Liverpool’s Pepe Reina among the names leading the way, the newspaper claims.
The news comes as a blow to Szczesny as he has finally established himself as the Emirates side’s number one.
It is rumoured that several players in the dressing room are unhappy with the Polish internationals confident attitude, believing that his performances have not been up to the standard which his cockiness suggests, the newspaper claims.
Captain dismissed
As for the Belgium international, and club captain, Vermaelen, he also found himself dropped for the Bayern tie, and Wenger is not afraid to wield the axe following several disappointing performances.
The 27-year-old may face a fight to regain his place in the first team after Laurent Koscielny impressed in his role against the Germans.
