Arsenal plotting ambitious move for Chelsea ace

petr-cech

Petr Cech is the surprise inclusion believed to be on Arsene Wenger’s shortlist of goalkeepers to compete with Wojciech Szczesny for Arsenal’s number one jersey.

The Gunners manager has been critical of Szczesny’s performances in recent weeks and the Daily Mail reports how the Chelsea number one could be a target for the Emirates side.

The Czech international is expecting competition from Thibaut Courtois next season at Stamford Bridge, as his current loan deal with Atletico Madrid ends in the summer.

Shock

The newspaper reports how Arsenal scouts have watched the Blues’ goalkeeper several times this season and now look set to make a move, but only if Courtois returns from Spain next season.

The Belgian has spent the last two seasons on loan at Atletico, where he has progressed to the level where Chelsea see him as Cech’s long term replacement.

Along with the 30 year old, the Gunners are rumoured to be tracking Pepe Reina, Michel Vorm and Asmir Begovic of Liverpool, Swansea City and Stoke City respectively, along with Barcelona’s Victor Valdes and Hamburg’s Rene Adler.

Heavy spend

The star-studded list shows Wenger intends to spend heavily in the summer as he looks to strengthen his squad for a title push next season.

Szczesny has been dropped for Arsenal’s previous two games, with Lukasz Fabianski playing against Bayern Munich and Swansea, with the Polish number two keeping clean sheets in both games.
