Arsenal man a target for Schalke

Arsenal's Lukasz Fabianski playing against Norwich CityThere are reports in the German press that Arsenal’s Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is being looked upon by Bundesliga side Schalke as a possible replacement to current number one Timo Hildebrand.

24 goals have been conceded by Schalke’s current 34-year-old goalkeepe in the Bundesliga this season. The German keeper also made a terrible blunder in Schalke’s Champions League group stage tie with Chelsea, in which the goalkeeper hit the ball off of Chelsea’s Samuel Eto’o during a clearing kick, the ball rebounding into the empty Schalke net.

Incidents like this have only been one of many though for the former Stuttgart youth product and it is believed that Schalke want to replace the goalkeeper.

Move away

Since Fabianski move to Arsenal in 2007 the former Legia Warsaw keeper has only featured 69 times and Poland coach Adam Nawalka stated that the player is interested in a move away from the club when in an interview the former Poland midfielder said: “Lukasz told me recently that he wants to change clubs”.

Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas has also been linked to the German side, though Fabianski may perhaps be a more realistic objective.

The 28-year-old will be out of contract next summer and the Pole confirmed: “I will soon make a decision about my sporting future.”

The gunners currently lie four points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand over their closest rivals. Arsenal will play Everton this Sunday evening.
