Arsenal join Liverpool in race for £8m defender

Arsenal have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Swansea captain Ashley Williams, according to the Daily Mail.

The Welshman is being scouted by a number of clubs after an impressive run of form this season.

If any club were to prise the Swansea star away from the Liberty, they would have to fork out around £8million suggest the Daily Mail.

The Gunners are not the only Premier League side to be linked to the defender, as Liverpool are also reported to be interested in the centre-back with Jamie Carragher retiring at the end of the season.

The north London outfit are looking to bolster their central defensive pairing in a bid to iron out regularly mistakes made by the Arsenal defence this season. Wenger is looking to eradicate these mistakes to make the Gunners a force to be reckoned with again.

Williams has been regarded as one of Swansea’s best players this season, being a part of the team that won the Capital One Cup against Bradford City. Laudrup will be hoping to keep hold of his captain in the summer.
