Arsenal and Liverpool to battle for Bundesliga star

Kyriakos-PapadopoulosArsenal and Liverpool will go toe to toe for Bundesliga star, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, as they both look to improve their defensive options.

The Express are reporting that Arsenal and Liverpool will look to try and sign the Greek international in January after both clubs have been credited with interest over the summer.

Papadopoulos

The 21 year old has a history of injuries and is in fact currently on the injury list. he hasn’t featured in a single game this season.

In fact he only featured in 16 games in all competitions last season for Schalke. Scoring twice and keeping as many clean sheets.

He has been out since the start of December 2012 after undergoing a knee operation.

However, in the 11/12 season he featured in 56 games in all domestic competitions, a season in which his talent was recognised.

Schakle will demand over £10 million for his services still.

Interest

Liverpool, according to the Express, held a strong interest in the player over the summer with some reports even suggesting that the Greek had signed a contract at the club and was down for a medical.

Reports were untrue and instead Liverpool signed Mamadou Sakho from PSG and Tiago Ilori from Sporting Lisbon.

Reports from the German club suggested at the start of the month that Schalke would be willing to let the player go if an acceptable bid was received. This sparked interest from Arsenal who are now looking to sign the player in January.

Manchester City and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest as well as some other top European clubs.
